York Landyacht Club

Based on an airfield near Yorkshire Air Museum, Elvington an ex military airbase, five miles south east of York. Sailing takes place two/three weekends a month either on the main runway which is 2 miles long or the large pan area, occasionally we get the use of the complete site, or we share with a number of motor sport events. Most members have their own yachts consisting of class 3, 5, Standart, Blokart, Xsail & Mini yachts, the Club owns a number of yachts for training purposes & members use - minis & a two seater.

We are very keen to attract new sailors, members are able to provide training & instruction from beginner to advance level, if you are interested in trying out the sport, taster sessions using club yachts can be arranged to suit most needs.

York is one of only two airfield-based clubs in the country & you will not find a larger piece of tarmac in Europe to sail on. Club pilot’s range from highly skilled British Team members sailing class 3, 5 & Standart yachts through to leisure sailors with mini & home made yachts.

If you want to have a go, or just come along to have a look at the yachts and chat with the Club members, get in touch with the Club Secretary for details of sailing dates.
